Marche Regionen
The Marche region is situated in the mid-eastern part of Italy on the Adriatic coast and borders on five other Italian regions: Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo and Emillia Romagna. The capital of the region is the port of Ancona by the Adriatic Sea. From Ancona there are ferry connections to Croatia and Greece. The climate is pleasant with average temperatures in July of approximately 28 degrees Celcius and in February of 10 degrees Celcius. The Marche region is a hidden gem with impressive scenery partly because of the Apennine mountain range that runs through Marche and in some places reaches heights of 2,400 meters. The Marche region is also the home of the national park Monte Sibelli that covers an area of 70,000 hectares and boasts a fantastic wildlife including birds, rare butterfly species and a unique flora. In the national park there is a massive plateau that is turned into a flowering meadow of rare flowers during the months of May and June. Botanists from all over the world come to the area to study its special types of orchids. In the winter you can enjoy both alpine and cross-country skiing. In addition to the sea, the region also has a couple of freshwater lakes with clear and clean water from the mountains that are suitable for kayaking, swimming and other water based activities. The region offers many opportunities for cultural experiences, picnics, truffle hunting, tasting the region's famous white wine, shopping, golf and enjoying challenging hiking trips on marked trails. The more adventurous can also engage in paragliding, river rafting, horseback riding and mountain biking. | Google Map | |
